CLASSROOM NEWS
Hello friends,
Welcome to Second Grade! I am so thrilled to have you in my class this year! You will discover information about animals and authors that you never knew before, as well as about landmarks around the world and different cultures. I can’t wait to get started on Wednesday, September 4th. We are going to have a fantastic year full of learning and fun!
I hope you all have had an adventurous summer. My family and I have been very busy and enjoyed our first trip to Europe. Even with all of this excitement, I have had some time to catch up on my reading but I also have spent a lot of my time reading Lemonade War, My Weirdest School, and Amelia Bedelia with my daughter, Lindsay. What have you read this summer? I can’t wait to hear about all of your summer adventures!
As I finish preparing our classroom, I hope you enjoy the last few days of summer. I hope many of you can make it to the open house on Tuesday, September 3rd from 1-2pm . I can’t wait to meet you all. See you soon in Room 23!
HOMEWORK
It is required that children in second grade be assigned 15-30 minutes of homework each night. In addition, our Read-a-Lot Program encourages your child to read for 15 minutes nightly and to reflect on their reading. This year, I have spaced out the reading log due dates. Please check the schedule on the bottom of the log. The completion of the reading log and nightly homework is part of the homework grade on the report card. Please encourage your child to complete and return!
The binder will be used as our S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) binder. This binder will travel to and from school with you everyday and will allow me to communicate with parents. The folders that I will provide you will help us organize such things as schoolwork, homework, and weekly notices.
